Safety Council FY26
Join us for our upcoming Safety Council meeting. These monthly meetings take place on the first Thursday of each month at the Neeley Center from 11:30 am to 1 pm. Just a friendly reminder, members of the safety council are required to attend a minimum of 10 meetings during the fiscal year 2026 to qualify for a rebate on their workers' compensation premium.
Topic: Best Practices for Accessible CommunicationsDescription:
Recognize guidelines, best practices, and tools to ensure communications are accessible which enables everyone to access communications effectively and equitably. This training includes interactive exercises and a questions and answers session.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will be able to:
- Describe why creating and distributing accessible communications is important.
- Identify guidelines and best practices to make materials accessible for a wide audience.
- Recognize tools and resources to prioritize and create accessible communications.
Speaker: Shelly Burkhart
Shelly is the Accessible Ohio Specialist for Northwest Ohio. In this role, Shelly supports Ohio’s businesses, communities, venues, and attractions to be accessible and inclusive through individualized consultations, education, and resources.
Shelly joined OOD in March 2016 as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
In addition to being a certified Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator, Shelly has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in sociology.
