Ribbon Cutting to Celebrate Rutherford B. Hayes
Presidential Library & Museums’ New EntranceThe Sandusky County Chamber of Commerce will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony celebrating the newly completed entrance project at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Spiegel Grove, Fremont, Ohio. The new entrance marks a major milestone for the Hayes Presidential campus, reflecting a project that was nearly eight years in the making. The primary goals of the renovation were to create a safer, more functional entrance while maintaining an aesthetic that honors the historic home of President Rutherford B. Hayes and First Lady Lucy Hayes, as well as the legacy of America's first presidential library.Key improvements include relocating the entrance further down Buckland Avenue, away from the busy three-way intersection at Hayes and Buckland Avenues. The entrance has been transformed from a one-way to a two-way design, significantly improving traffic flow, easing navigation for tour buses, and enhancing overall visitor safety. Additional updates include repaved driveways, enhanced bus and RV parking, and beautification projects that align with the natural and historical features of Spiegel Grove. The project involved collaboration with several partners, including Ohio History Connection, Ohio Historic Preservation Office, District 4 ODOT, M&B Blacktop, Jarrett Tree Service, S&S Excavating, The Collaborative, Quality Masonry, Toledo Sign, Valley Electric, Corso’s Landscaping, Whispering Meadows Garden Club, and the Hayes Presidential Building & Grounds Staff.Brief remarks will be made by city officials, donors, and project leaders during the ceremony, followed by a ribbon cutting and a reception with light refreshments. The public is warmly invited to attend and celebrate this important project alongside Hayes Presidential staff, community leaders, and supporters.“Primarily, the new entrance evolved out of safety concerns with the previous entrance, which was too narrow for modern traffic. While designing the new entrance, it was important to us that it look stately and presidential, yet still blend well with the beautiful, natural features of Spiegel Grove,” said Executive Director Christie Weininger. If you are interested in celebrating a business milestone with the Sandusky County Chamber of Commerce, contact Crystal Laird at (419) 332-1591 or visit the Chamber’s website at www.scchamber.org.
